Wedding in Skåne: finding a venue, rooms and a ceremony
Updated 26 October 2026 · Written by Lysela
A wedding in Skåne can be a ceremony in a country church and dinner in a barn, or a civil ceremony in Malmö and a party on a farm. Start with the venue, because it decides almost everything else: how many of you there will be, whether guests can sleep on site, who may serve the food and how everyone gets there. Many venues are in the countryside, so guests from Copenhagen, Malmö and further away need to know how to reach you. Here is how to approach getting married in southern Sweden: castle, farm, barn, manor and greenhouse venues, bringing your own drinks, overnight stays, catering, the ceremony and the journey.

The type of venue decides what to ask. The table shows what usually sets a castle, a manor, a farm, a barn and a greenhouse apart.
One castle that takes weddings is Svaneholm Castle in Skurup municipality. According to its own website it lies near the E65, about 35 minutes from Malmö and 40 minutes from Lund. It is an example and not a recommendation. Available dates, seating and terms come from the venue itself.
| Venue | Suits you if you want | Ask the venue |
|---|---|---|
| Castle | A large hall and a setting that is already dressed. | How many fit at long tables, and whether the ceremony can be held on site. |
| Manor house | The whole house for you and your guests. | Whether you hire the whole manor, and what the hire includes. |
| Farm | Rooms to sleep in and time to stay for several days. | Are there rooms on the farm, and how far is the nearest place to stay? |
| Barn | Plenty of space and a rustic feel. | Heating, toilets and where you move if it rains. |
| Greenhouse or orangery | Light and a smaller party. | How many can sit, and whether food can be served there. |
A wedding venue in Skåne where you bring your own drinks
Whether you may bring your own drinks is up to the venue, and many charge a corkage fee per bottle or per guest. Swedish alcohol law applies on top of that. The City of Malmö says you need a temporary serving permit to serve alcohol on a single occasion, and that alcohol for a closed party must be bought from Systembolaget. A closed party is a group whose participants are known in advance and share something in common.
How the rules apply to your wedding is for the municipality where the venue lies to decide, and another municipality in Skåne may have its own routines. Ask both the venue and the municipality before you buy any drinks. More on what to ask a venue is in the wedding venue guide.
Hello, We are planning a wedding on [date] for [number] guests. May we bring our own drinks, and what is the corkage fee? Which serving permit applies at your venue, and what do we need to apply for ourselves from the municipality? Kind regards [name] and [name]

Rooms on site
Ask whether the venue has rooms, how many people they sleep and whether they are included in the hire. Then guests do not have to travel home late at night.
Places to stay nearby
If there are no rooms, gather a few options at different prices and say how far each is from the venue.
Catering at the venue
Some venues have their own kitchen or a restaurant, while others let you bring in a catering firm. Ask which applies before you book the date.
Outside catering
Ask for the menu, the price per person and how they handle allergies. You get your guests' allergies collected in the RSVP.
Where to stay [Hotel] is [number] minutes from [the venue]. Please book yourselves and mention our wedding on [date]. If you drive, you can ask on the site whether there is a seat in a car.
Ceremony in Skåne: church or a civil ceremony in Malmö
For a wedding in the Church of Sweden, at least one of you must be a member, and you first apply for a marriage licence check (hindersprövning) from the Swedish Tax Agency, Skatteverket. The Church of Sweden in Lund writes that a wedding costs nothing, even in a parish other than your own, and that you meet the priest beforehand. In Lund the church's seven parishes share one wedding policy, so contact the parish where you want to marry.
If you want a civil ceremony in Malmö, places, cost and booking are in civil wedding in Malmö. What the marriage licence check requires is explained in the marriage licence guide.
Getting to a wedding in Skåne: trains, buses and guests from Copenhagen
Since December 2022 Skånetrafiken has run the Öresund trains all the way to Copenhagen H/Österport. Guests from Copenhagen can therefore take the train to Malmö and travel on from there. Timetables for public transport in Skåne are on Skånetrafiken's website, and a venue in the countryside often needs a bus or a car for the last stretch.
How you solve that last stretch, with a hired coach, lift-sharing or taxis, is covered in the guide to wedding transport.
From Copenhagen and abroad
Say which station is nearest the venue and how far it is from there.
To the venue
Tell guests whether a bus runs, whether you are arranging your own and where it meets the train.
Home at night
Give the times of the last bus, and say who guests can ask if they miss it.
Getting here Take the Öresund train to Malmö and change there to a [train or bus] towards [station]. We have booked a bus from [station] at [time], and home at [time] and [time].
What guests who travel far want to know
Guests who travel far ask the same things: where is it, how do I get there, where do I sleep and what happens when? All of it can sit on the wedding website instead of in thirty messages.
On the example sites, Clara and Theo are marrying in Kivik in Skåne. The page has the places with addresses and a line about parking, the bus from Simrishamn station, and places to stay near the church and the barn.

Places, buses and accommodation on your wedding website
With Lysela you collect what guests need on one wedding website. Every tier includes the places with an address, directions and a map link, the programme, buses with times, accommodation tips with links, lift-sharing and an RSVP with allergies. Guests reply on their phones, one reply per household, with no app or account. From Plus you can ask your own questions in the RSVP, such as whether they are staying overnight, and guests who choose English see the site's headings, buttons and RSVP form in English, which helps friends from Copenhagen. Your own text is shown as you wrote it.
You start without an account and pay once, SEK 795, SEK 1,795 or SEK 4,900 including VAT, and the site stays up for 12 months.
What usually goes on a wedding website, and what one costs, is in the checklist.
Frequently asked questions
What does a wedding in Skåne cost?
There is no common price. The venue, food, drinks and accommodation decide, and each venue sets its own prices. Ask three or four venues for a quote with the same date and guest count, and enter the figures in your [wedding budget](budget).
How do you find a cheap wedding venue in Skåne, for example in north-west Skåne?
Search by town and ask several venues for the same quote. Ask whether the price differs between dates, what the hire includes and whether you may bring your own food and drinks. More questions are in the [wedding venue guide](lokal).
Can you have a civil wedding in Malmö?
Yes. Places, cost and booking are explained in [civil wedding in Malmö](borgerlig-malmo).
Can a couple from Copenhagen marry in Skåne?
Yes. The marriage licence check is done by Skatteverket. If neither of you lives in Sweden, you submit documents from foreign authorities, and Skatteverket gives a processing time of roughly eight to nine weeks, so start early.
