Civil wedding in Örebro: City Hall, booking and rules
Updated 26 October 2026 · Written by Lysela
You book a civil wedding in Örebro through the municipality's online service, Boka tid för borgerlig vigsel. The municipality marries couples in the representation floor of Örebro City Hall (Rådhuset) on Stortorget, on Saturdays between 12.00 and 15.30, and the ceremony costs nothing. You can be up to about 20 people, couple and witnesses included. This guide covers the booking, the rules at City Hall, what to do if you want another venue, what applies if neither of you lives in Sweden and how to tell your guests where to be. For how a civil ceremony works in general, see the guide to a civil wedding in Sweden.

Book a time
You book in the online service, where you log in with an e-ID. The municipality asks you to book in good time. If you have no e-ID, go to the Servicecenter at Näbbtorgsgatan 10. An officiant is assigned automatically when you book.
Apply for the eligibility check
You apply to Skatteverket, the Swedish Tax Agency. The eligibility check is valid for four months, and the ceremony must take place within that time.
Hand in the certificates
Send or hand in the certificates from Skatteverket to City Hall at least ten days before the ceremony. If you received them digitally, email them to vigsel@orebro.se.
Arrange two witnesses
Witnesses must be at least 18, have valid ID and understand what the ceremony means. You choose them yourselves.
Ask the wedding office
Phone 019-21 10 91 on weekdays, or email vigsel@orebro.se. The reception is open 07.45 to 16.00.

Civil wedding in Örebro municipality at another venue
The municipality's own ceremonies are held at City Hall. If you want to choose another place within Örebro municipality, contact the wedding office at vigsel@orebro.se with your wishes for time, place and date.
The County Administrative Board (Länsstyrelsen) in Örebro County appoints the civil officiants and keeps a list of them for each municipality. An officiant may not charge you a fee. If you want to marry somewhere other than where the municipality holds ceremonies, the officiant may however ask you to cover the actual travel costs, and no more than that. The County Administrative Board pays no travel allowance.
Marrying in Örebro if you live abroad
The ceremony is held in Swedish, but the municipality can offer it in English. If you need an interpreter for another language, you mainly arrange the interpreting yourselves, for example through a witness who understands both languages.
You apply for the eligibility check at Skatteverket, and the application costs nothing. If neither of you is registered as resident in Sweden, you need documents from home: a certificate of civil status, preferably from the last four months, proof that you are over 18 and a declaration that you are not closely related. If neither of you is a Swedish citizen, you must also show that you may marry under the law of your country of citizenship. Skatteverket gives a processing time of about nine weeks in that case, so start early.
