Wedding gift list: what to put on it and how guests use it
Updated 26 October 2026 · Written by Lysela
A good wedding gift list has items at several prices, more wishes than you have guests and a way for guests to see what has already been bought. Share it with the invitation or on your wedding website, not with the save the date. Here is what to put on it, wording to copy for the invitation and the website, and how to stop two guests buying the same thing.
Try it yourself, no account neededWhat should go on a wedding gift list?
Start with things you will really use, and spread the prices. Guests give different amounts, and nobody should end up beside the most expensive line.
Add more wishes than you have guests or households. Then everyone can choose, even after a few items have been bought.
| Price range | Examples | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Under 300 SEK | Glasses, serving dishes, a good knife, spice jars | Single guests and anyone giving something small |
| 300 to 1,000 SEK | Bed linen, towels, a casserole dish, baking tools | The usual choice for a household |
| Over 1,000 SEK | A kitchen appliance, a proper set of dinner plates, a living room lamp | Several guests chipping in together |
| Experiences | Dinner at a restaurant, a spa weekend, a cinema or concert evening | Your first trip or time together |
Experiences and contributions on the list
Many couples already have a full home. The list can then hold experiences (a dinner, a weekend) or one larger item guests give towards together. Say what it is and why, and it becomes easier to give.
If you would also like money, you can have both. Let the list show the items and put the money on a line of its own. The guide to cash gifts covers the wording and how Swish works.
How to word your gift list
Begin by saying that having guests there matters most. The list then reads as an offer, not a demand. Replace whatever is in square brackets.
Having you there is the best gift we could ask for. If you would still like to give something, there is a gift list on our wedding website, [address].
We have lived together for [number] years and have most things. What we are missing is here, at different prices. Choose whatever suits you, and giving nothing is just as welcome.
What we want most is time together. That is why we have added a few experiences to the list, such as [a dinner or a weekend].
You will find our gift list here. If you would rather contribute to [the honeymoon or another goal], that works too, by Swish to [number].
Our wishes are at [address]. No pressure, just ideas.
How do guests avoid buying the same gift?
Duplicates are the biggest problem with any gift list. There are three common ways to deal with them.
| Method | How it works | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| A list at a shop | Many shops and department stores let you collect wishes in a list where bought items are marked. Terms and features differ, so check with the shop. | The list is limited to that shop's range, and guests have to buy there. |
| A shared online list guests mark | An online list where whoever takes an item marks it as taken. | Choose a service where guests do not need to create an account. |
| One person keeps track | A parent, a friend or the toastmaster hears what has been bought and answers questions. | Put their name and contact details on the list. |
When do you share the gift list?
Not with the save the date. That card is for the date and place, and a gift list that early can feel like a bill.
Share it with the invitation, or on the wedding website the invitation leads to. Guests then know they are invited first, and those who want to give have plenty of time. Write the list once, in one place, and let the rest of your wording point there. If a guest asks where the list is, the address is all you need to send.

The wish list on your wedding website
From Plus, the wedding website has a section called Wish list. It shows your own text and a Swish QR code that fills in your number and your message, so the guest only types the amount. No money passes through us. The site has no list where guests can mark that they have taken something, so write your items in the Good to know section (available in Bas) or use a shop's list. The example sites show how it looks to guests.
You pay once, SEK 795, SEK 1,795 or SEK 4,900 including VAT, and the site stays up for 12 months.
What usually goes on a wedding website, and what one costs, is in the checklist.
Frequently asked questions
How many items should a wedding gift list have?
More than the number of households you invite, so everyone can choose even after some items are bought. Mix small and large items.
Can we have a gift list and ask for money too?
Yes. Let the list show items, put the money on a line of its own and say what it is for. Guests choose.
Should the gift list be on the save the date?
No. Keep it for the invitation or the wedding website, so the save the date stays about the date and place.
How do guests know what has already been bought?
Use a list where bought items are marked, or have one person keep track and answer questions. On Lysela the site shows your wish list, but guests cannot mark items there.
